Approved Standard Computer Configuration List for Faculty and Staff
Each year, IT Services collaborates with academic and administrative stakeholders to develop an Approved Standard Computer Configuration List. This includes three tiers of devices, reviewed annually to ensure optimal performance, security, pricing, and functionality.

Purchasing & Justification

Tier 1 pricing is available via the Vanguard punchout in Coupa/ MARQetplace.

Tier 2 & Tier 3 requests require a Non-Standard Justification Form (coming soon), approved by the college or Department and IT Services.
Tier Overview and Hardware Specifications

Tier 1: Meets the needs of approximately 90% of faculty and staff. Fully funded through the Computer Replacement Program (CRP).

Tier 2 & 3: Designed for specialized academic or administrative needs. Departments are responsible for any cost difference above Tier 1 and must include an extended warranty.
NOTE: Standard laptops and desktops now include a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) — a chip that speeds up AI and machine learning tasks. It helps your computer run more innovative features faster and more efficiently than regular processors.

Security Requirements
Marquette University's Information Security Policy (UPP 1-42) authorizes IT Services to implement and manage a comprehensive security framework to mitigate information security risk across campus systems. All university-owned computer hardware must be compatible with the following security features, which must be enabled and actively monitored by IT Services.

BitLocker - Full disk encryption to protect data at rest.

Secure Boot - Prevents unauthorized software from loading during startup.

Firewall - Protects against unauthorized network access.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) - Hardware-based security for encryption and authentication.

Rapid7 - Provides real-time endpoint threat detection and vulnerability assessments.

- The device must maintain a machine risk score of Medium or lower.

Faculty and staff benefit from a range of services included with standard computer configurations:

Onboarding and Setup: Devices are pre-configured with Marquette's standard software and security settings.

Hardware warranty and Support: Coverage includes manufacturer warranty and IT Services support for troubleshooting and repairs.

Docking Station and Accessories: Tier 1 laptops include a docking station to support flexible work environments.

Lifecycle Management: IT Services tracks device lifecycle and coordinates timely replacements through the Computer Replacement Program (CRP).

Security Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of device health and compliance with university security policies.

Software Licensing and Updates: Access to licensed software and automatic updates managed by IT Services.
