Connect Your Windows Device to the Wired Network
In addition to Wi-Fi, Marquette University has a wired campus network accessible with an Ethernet cable and network wall jack. Follow these steps to connect your Windows device to the wired network.
Note: Over the Spring 2024 semester, wired Ethernet ports will be updated on campus on a building-by-building basis for users and devices to sign in for access. Check the schedule of completed and upcoming buildings.
Check for Ethernet on Your Windows Device
Before connecting, make sure your Windows device has an Ethernet port. The port resembles a larger landline telephone jack and may look like this.
Don't have an Ethernet port on your device? Consider getting an adapter, such as a USB-Ethernet adapter, for your device.
If the Building Doesn't Require Signing in:
Connect to the Wired Network
- Plug the network cable into the Ethernet port or Ethernet adapter on the device.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the network wall jack.
- Wait a moment for the computer to show an Ethernet connection icon in the task bar.
- Launch a web browser to confirm you have network access.
If the Building Requires Signing in:
Connect to the Wired Network
Note: Marquette-managed faculty and staff computers were automatically updated with settings to access the network.
- Plug the network cable into the Ethernet port or Ethernet adapter on the device.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the network wall jack.
- Wait a moment for the computer to show an Ethernet connection icon in the task bar.
- If prompted, sign in with your Marquette username — not your email address — and password.
- If the connection fails, try restarting the device to ensure the new settings are applied.
- If the connection fails again, report an issue with the ITS TechSquad for further assistance.
Students, faculty, and staff with personally owned devices should use MU Secure Wi-Fi. Guests can use MU Guest Wi-Fi.
