About the MarquetteCard
What’s the MarquetteCard?
A MarquetteCard is issued to all students, faculty, and staff of Marquette University. This card identifies individuals across campus with many integrated university systems. Cardholders can:
- Gain access into buildings
- Pay for dining both on and off campus
- Print, scan, or photocopy across campus
- Do laundry in residence halls and apartments on campus
- Verify residency in all university residence halls
- Enter the libraries and check out materials
- Access campus recreational facilities
- And many other uses across campus
Getting Your MarquetteCard
MarquetteCards are issued by the Card Office in the Alumni Memorial Union, Room 158. New students receive information on how to obtain a card once deposits have been paid. New employees are eligible to pick up a card on the first day of employment. Replacement cards can be picked up at the Card Office as well.
The MarquetteCard is used the entire time you are associated with the university. It’s not necessary to obtain a new card each semester. To receive a MarquetteCard, you must present a valid form of photo identification at the time of application (e.g., driver's license, state ID, passport, etc.). For more information on the MarquetteCard, visit Marquettecard.com or the University Policy Page on University Identification Cards.
Addressing Issues with Your MarquetteCard
Across campus, the MarquetteCard can be used to identify you in three ways:
- By someone seeing the picture, name and MUID number
- By scanning the internal chip of the card with a tap scanner
- By reading the magstripe on the back of the card
If any of these areas get damaged, the card may not work properly. Please stop by the Card Office in AMU 158, and they can verify if the card is working properly. They can also verify account balances; areas you should have access to on campus and check out card systems if there are any other issues with the card. If you have card issues after hours, the Marquette University Police Department (MUPD) in Parking Structure 1 can assist as well. Cardholders can also visit Marquettecard.com to check balances and other card information as well.
If you need access to areas on campus, contact MUPD for assistance. MUPD manages who gets access across campus and can add or remove access to a card. Some areas also have cardkeepers that help manage access to department specific areas. Ask the department who manages the area you need access to, and someone might be able to help you without needing to go to MUPD.
Why Your MarquetteCard Might Stop Working
For security reasons, the university developed the following procedures to deactivate MarquetteCards.
- When someone gets a replacement MarquetteCard, the old card is permanently deactivated and will no longer work. Old cards — if lost and then found — cannot be reactivated.
- On MarquetteCard.com, users can mark their card as lost or stolen, deactivating your card. If the card is found, the card can be reactivated through the website or the Card Office — only if a new card has not been issued.
- If a student, faculty or staff member leaves the university, cards are deactivated immediately.
- Any card not used for 18 months is deactivated. This deactivation can be prevented by using the card at the library or any door with a card reader on campus. If the card is deactivated by inactivity, please contact the Card Office for assistance.
- Cardkeepers and MUPD routinely audit door access, so access may be revoked during an audit based on the department rules for access.
