Microsoft Authenticator App Instructions for Android

Once installed, open the application and click "Add account." You will then be prompted to choose the type of account you are adding. Choose the option labeled "Add work or school account."

Click "Sign in" at the following prompt.

Sign in using your Marquette O365 credentials.

The application will request you verify your identity. Select the call or text method.

If you choose the text method, enter the code texted to your cellphone into the prompt.

Authenticator will then ask you to register your device to be able to log in without using a password. You can click "Skip."
Click "Continue" at the next prompt and your device will now be registered.

Change Multi-Factor Authentication Method
Once you have Authenticator linked to your account, you will want to change the method by which you will authenticate using multi-factor authentication. Please go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/ and log in.
In the next screen click “Security Info” located in the left-hand column.

The “Security Info” tab will now display each option you have registered for multi-factor authentication. Click “Change.”

A drop-down will appear with four options for multi-factor authentication:
- Phone – Call (least secure)
- Phone – Text
- App based authentication – notification (push notification)
- App based authentication or hardware token – code (most secure)

Choose your preferred method. “App based authentication or hardware token – code” is recommended. This method generates a new time-based one-time passcode in the Authenticator app that rotates every 30 seconds. All methods are valid, but we do not recommend using Phone Call or SMS/text messages due to security issues.
Click “Confirm.”
