What's SPSS for macOS?
SPSS stands for "Statistical Package for the Social Sciences." A product of IBM, SPSS is software for statistical data analysis. Marquette students, faculty, and staff can download and install SPSS for macOS at no cost through a university site license.
Note: If you already have SPSS installed and you just need to update the license code, follow these links to log in (if prompted) to view the code.
Download SPSS 29 for macOS
- Your Mac needs macOS High Sierra or later to install SPSS.
- SPSS is strictly for academic use.
- Log in (if prompted) to Marquette's Microsoft site to download SPSS 29 for macOS.
Install SPSS 29 for macOS
- Once the download completes, double-click the Mac-SPSS-29 zip file. The default location for this file in your Downloads folder.
- The file unzips to reveal a folder. Open the "Mac-SPSS-29" folder.
- The folder opens. Double-click the "SPSSSC_29.0.2_Mac" package file.
- If prompted for access to the installer, click OK.
- The welcome screen appears. Click Continue.
- Note the warning: "Installing IBM SPSS Statistics will overwrite any existing installations of version 28 or later." Click Continue.
- The "Read Me" screen appears. Click Continue.
- The "Software License Agreement" screen appears. Click Continue.
- To continue, accept the license agreement by clicking Agree.
- The "Select a Destination" screen appears. Keep the default and click Continue.
- SPSS is ready to install. Click Install.
- Your Mac prompts you to authorize the installation. Enter your Mac administrative password or, if available, use Touch ID.
- The installation starts. A new Finder window called IBM SPSS Statistics opens. If successful, the installer states the software was installed. Click Close.
- Return to the "Mac-SPSS-29" folder. Open the "Key" text file to view software license details.
- Go to the Finder window named "IBM SPSS Statistics." (It's located in your Applications folder.) Click SPSS Statistics to open SPSS.
- The IBM SPSS Statistics Licensing window appears. Click "Launch License Wizard."
- The "IBM SPSS License Authorization Wizard" launches. The "Product Authorization" screen appears. Keep "Authorized User License" selected and click Next.
- Use the license text file from Step 14 and enter the license code. Click Add. Click Next.
- IBM authorizes the license code for SPSS. If the authorization is successful, click Next.
- The "IBM SPSS License Authorization Wizard" lists authorized licenses with expiration dates. Click Finish.
- You're done installing and ready to use SPSS.
