What's Stata for macOS?
Stata for macOS is statistical software used for research — often in economics, health and political science. Marquette students, faculty, and staff can download and install Stata at no cost through a university site license.

Download StataSE 18 for macOS
- Your Mac needs macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later to install StataSE ("Special Edition").
- Log in (if prompted) to Marquette's Microsoft site to download Stata for macOS.
Install StataSE 18
- Once the download completes, double-click the "Install Mac Stata 18" zip file. The default location for this file in your Downloads folder.

- The file unzips, yielding two files. Double-click the Stata18 disk image file.

- Double-click the Install Stata icon.

- If prompted for access to the installer, click OK.

- The welcome screen appears. Click Continue.

- The "Software License Agreement" screen appears. Click Continue.

- To continue, accept the license agreement by clicking Agree.

- Select the Stata/SE checkbox and click Continue.

- Click Install.

- Your Mac prompts you to authorize the installation. Enter your Mac administrative password or, if available, use Touch ID.

- The installation starts. A new Finder window called Stata opens. If successful, the installer states the software was installed.

- The installer prompts you to move the installer to the Trash and may prompt you for Desktop access to do so. Choose between "Keep" or "Move to Trash."
- In the upper left of the installer window, click the red "x" close icon to close the installer.
- Return to the unzipped files from Step 2. Open the "STATA SE 18 License Info" text file to view software license details.

- Go to the Finder window named Stata. (It's the "Stata" folder — just installed in your Applications folder.) Click StataSE to open Stata.

- The "Initialize License" screen appears. Enter your name. Enter your organization as Marquette University. Then, using the license text file from Step 15, type in the serial number, code, and authorization. Select Next.

- Uncheck "Register Stata Online" and select Next.

- Choose between "Sidebar" and "Widescreen" layouts for Stata. Click Finish.

- StataSE prompts you to "Check for updates now." Click OK.

- If updates are available, select the "Install available updates" options and click OK.
- You're done installing and ready to use StataSE 18.
